Community Builders Awards: Rotaract Club of Barrie wins Young Leader Award for impact on young people

The club was recognized with a Community Builders Award for empowering young people to serve the community

The Rotaract Club of Barrie is a dynamic group of young professionals dedicated to the ethos of "service above self".

Since its establishment in 2013, this service club has become a cornerstone of our community, making significant strides in local volunteerism and fundraising initiatives.

With a current membership of 16 individuals, the Rotaract Club of Barrie plays a pivotal role in enhancing our community's well-being.

By collaborating with grassroots organizations and fellow service clubs, the club amplifies efforts in important areas such as environmental conservation, education outreach and addressing social issues through various events and initiatives.

Over the past year, the young members of the Rotaract Club have launched a number of impressive campaigns.

In collaboration with Glowing Hearts Charity, they initiated a backpack drive to ensure children in need had the necessary school supplies for a successful school year.

They also sold calendars to fundraise for the Gilda Club, helping to support people impacted by cancer and pledged $5,000 to the Barrie Women and Children’s Shelter.

When this entrepreneurial group of young people set their sights on supporting the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre Foundation, they exceeded all expectations with a successful campaign raising $45,000.

Not only do these initiatives have an effect on Barrie; they help to foster a sense of belonging, build confidence and help young people to better understand their unique skills and what they can bring to their community.

With this approach, the Rotaract Club of Barrie nurtures its members to build the qualities they need to be the leaders of tomorrow.

Through their collective efforts, the Rotaract Club of Barrie has created a ripple effect of positivity in Barrie, inspiring others to join in and contribute to the betterment of our community, creating lasting, positive change.

The Young Leader Award is presented to an individual or group under the age of 25 who is actively involved in worthwhile community service and shows a commitment to making the community a better place for others.

Congratulations to the Rotaract Club of Barrie!
