The Elora & Fergus communities are fortunate to have many extraordinary people who dedicate their lives to positively impacting our towns without seeking recognition or accolades.
We are proud to celebrate these efforts with the EloraFergusToday Community Builders Awards, a new annual program that recognizes an individual or group who has made our community a better place to live.
We are delighted to announce James Scott as the Unsung Hero award winner of the inaugural EloraFergusToday Community Builders Awards.
Scott, the local trailblazer behind Move Centre Wellington, is being honoured for his quiet dedication to youth, movement and community-building.
Born and raised in Elora, he holds a kinesiology degree from Brock University and played university basketball at Camosun College. Today, he’s a certified personal trainer and professional shooting coach, channelling this expertise back into his community.
In the summer of 2016, Scott launched what was then called Move Training, offering youth athletic training across various sports.
Over just four summers, he built a thriving business and also discovered a bigger purpose: movement isn’t just about athletic performance—it brings people together, boosts confidence and nurtures community spirit.
In 2022, Scott rebranded his venture into Move Centre Wellington (Move CW). The rejuvenated organization is now known as a sport and fitness company that encourages everyone to find an activity they love, no matter their background or skill level.
“It’s not about how good these kids are at sports.” Scott said. “It’s about the human connection.”
He’s also heavily involved in local sports programs like the Centre Wellington Celtics basketball program, which hosts the Team Addy 3x3 tournament, raising funds for cancer research.
His main goal is to bring joy and health through movement to the entire community.
“What stands out about James is his instinct to show up,” said Jessica Hill, founder of Team Addy.
“He doesn’t do it for credit or recognition, it’s simply because he cares,” she said.
James Scott’s leadership and dedication through Move Centre Wellington highlight the impact one person can have in shaping a stronger, more connected community. As the first recipient of the EloraFergusToday Community Builders Awards, his work sets the standard for how much can be achieved when vision meets commitment.
This year’s Community Builders Awards was presented at Hereward Farms. MP Michael Chong and MPP Joseph Racinsky also presented certificates acknowledging Scott’s outstanding contributions to Elora and Fergus.
Congratulations, James, and thank you for all that you do for our community.
